Almost one year is gone since the Preßburger Klezmer Band performed in the small orthodox synagogue in Žilina. This band from Bratislava is inspired by emotive and dance music from middle and eastern Europe called “klezmer”.
All entry fee collected will go towards public donation campaign towards new synagogue reconstruction. Do not miss this out and book tickets in advance – the capacity of the small orthodox synagogue is restricted and the tickets will not be sold at the door.
Energized musical cocktail Preßburger Klezmer Band is mixed from Jewish, Balkan and Oriental music as well as Slovakian and Gypsy folklore. All these with an essence of contemporary music styles as jazz, rock, reggae and latino. Preßburger Klezmer Band belongs to one of the prominent bands of European word music. Since it was formed has had concerts, played gigs, performed in festivals, not only in Slovakia, or Europe, but also further overseas. Not long ago it performed in Bratislava with the famous band The Klezmatics. Preßburger Klezmer Band released 5 albums – they all are expressions of the strong emotionality and musicality which typical to klezmer music.
The concert brings also an opportunity to visit the orthodox synagogue, which is still being used for it´s original purpose. It also is an place where exhibitions of Jewish culture Museum SNM could be found. Last year we managed to integrate this space into the Night of Literature festival and organize the already mentioned PKB concert. The concert was a success and therefore it was only a question of time that the band comes back again.
This gig is a part of a project called “Waking up of the synagogue” and it is being organized in cooperation with Jewish community in Žilina. It is sponsored by Council of Compensation, Government office of the Slovak Republic, Program: Culture of national minorities 2012.
